More George Appleton

Today I thought I’d share two prayers by George Appleton:

O Lord God, I thank thee for the growing knowledge of myself, of the depths of personality which affect my thinking, my feeling, my behaviour, and my dreams. There is so much more than I ever thought, so much more to offer thee for the cleansing and sanctifying of thy Spirit. Heal my inner divisions in the unity of thy will, set my fears at rest in the assurance of thy love and grace, let no resentments destroy my inner peace, no thoughts of self deflect me from thy purpose for me. Help me to grow towards the fullness of life and love seen in thy blessed Son, Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.

O Spirit of God who dost speak to spirits created in thine own likeness: penetrate into the depths of our spirits, into the storehouse of memories remembered and forgotten, into the depths of being, the very springs of personality. And cleanse and forgive, making us whole and holy, that we may be thine and live in the new being of Christ our Lord. Amen.
